Advice From A Florist: When and How to Order Mother's Day Flowers

Mother's Day is Sunday May 10th

As a florist I know from experience that if you're not ordering the right thing at the right time you're likely to be disappointed with the results. If you're considering sending your mother flowers this year that's wonderful. A fresh bouquet can really make someone feel loved and is a perfect choice for those of us who have the mother who has everything.

If you've ever had a bad experience ordering/receiving flowers for a holiday like Mother's day or Valentines day it's most likely because of one of three things. So I've got 3 tips to help you ensure your flowers will arrive in time and be just as lovely as you imagined.

One, don't order late. Do not wait until the day of or the day before or the day before that. If your mother still works it's best to send flowers to her workplace the Thursday or Friday before Mother's day. I've heard many stories about workplace competition during Valentine's and Mother's day and you don't want your mom being the odd one out. Also, if you're sending flowers to her home instead of workplace an early delivery will ensure that they arrive in beautiful condition and the florist will most likely have the most variety of flowers and the freshest flowers that Monday to Wednesday before Mother's day. The closer you get to Sunday the fewer flowers they have and since the florists are working like crazy throughout that week ordering early with ensure that your designer has fresh eyes that will make you something beautiful. Holidays seem to be the time when I cut off chunks of my fingers, sprain my ankles etc. so the earlier you order the more whole your designer will be. This year you should try to place your order sometime between April 27th and May 4th with a Thursday or Friday delivery.

Second, order from a local florist. If you don't live in the same city as your mother then google it, ok. Don't call a 1-800 number, don't order online and definitely do not have flowers shipped to your mother. You need to speak to someone at the shop you're ordering from to ensure that flowers aren't stuck in transit across the country, they're delivered fresh and that someone actually cares what your mother's flower arrangement looks like. Making a personal connection with the designer or even just the employee answering the phone will get the best results. Designers like to cater to their customers and take pride in doing a beautiful job. Our jobs often depend on word of mouth and we love to be creative so order with us and we'll take care of you. Trust me. We want to be there for your anniversaries, new babies, weddings, all the important life events.

Third, do not order from a "menu" of things you see on a website. Any arrangement with a name like "Dancing Daisies" or "Sweet Memories" from a major floral site will never look as good as it does in the picture. Floral shops rarely have all the flowers that are included in certain arrangements and the pictures do not reflect the actual cost. If you do want a specific arrangement you've seen on a florist website then keep in mind whatever it looks like in the picture will have half of the flowers in real life. More importantly floral designers are artists. We can create something much more beautiful for you if we have the freedom to select from the freshest and best we have in stock. Instead of ordering a pre-designed horror let your designer know what your mother's favorite colors or flowers are. If you know her style, let us know. We can do English garden, modern, contemporary, funky and colourful, light and airy. It's what we live for and will get you the best results.
Now, just don't forget!
